Rattanakiri has a unique natural beauty and wealth of natural resources. A land of mountains and rain forests - home to a variety of wildlife including some rare tigers and elephants, and perhaps even a few "kouprey", the mysterious jungle cow.

Itinerary in details:

 

Day 1: Phnom Penh - Kratie (D)

 

Arriving Phnompenh airport then  tour guide and car will meet you in your hotel in Phnompenh then depart for to Kratie. Dinner and overnight in Kratie

Day 2: Kratie - Stung Treng (B, L, D)

Breakfast in hotel then transfer by vehicle from Kratie to Stung Treng. Journey along the Mekong River basin through the villages of Sambok, Sre Sbov and Phumi Prek Preah. The Mekong River, which rises in Tibet, flows 315 km through Cambodia before continuing on through Vietnam to the sea.

Dinner and overnight in Stung Treng.

Day 3:  Stung Treng (B, L, D)

Breakfast in hotel then start sightseeing Stung Treng. Town north of Kratie built on the eastern bank of the Mekong River with good views of the river at sunset. Visiting Prasat Preah Ko: tower made of bricks or tiles dating from the Cham period, 10 by 12 metres in size and partly collapsed. It was built in dedication to the Hindu god Shiva. Visiting the local market: despite the fact that the town is far from other large settlements the market has a lot of products to offer, with many imported goods from Laos.

Dinner and overnight in Stung Treng.

Day 4: Stung Treng - Banlung - Rattanakiri (B, L, D)

Breakfast in hotel then transfer by vehicle from Stung Treng to Banlung. Journey east to Ratanakiri Province, a remote region of densely forested mountains and isolated hill tribes, crossing the Mekong River and the Sre Pok River.Sightseeing around Banlung. Excursion in the surroundings of Banlung, with visits to Teuk Cha Ong waterfall, Yeak Laom lake, a zircon mine and a pepper plantation. Teuk Cha Ong - a spectacular waterfall in a jungle gorge. The other attractions in this area are the isolated ethnic minority villages and a zircon mine. Yeak Laom: a volcanic lake which forms a near perfect circle and is surrounded by tropical forest. A lovely spot for swimming, if desired. Elephant Ride: Take a 3 hour elephant ride to a scenic waterfall and back through the Cambodian bush. Overnight in Rattanakiri.

Day 5: Banlung - Rattanakiri (B, L, D)

Breakfast in hotel then visit local market at Bar Kaev. Sightseeing around Banlung. Visit a local market. Excursion by vehicle to several minority villages such as Andoung Meas. Boat ride to Phoum Dal and another village. On the way visit a rubber plantation. Dinner and overnight in Rattanakiri.

Day 6: Rattanakiri - Ta Vaeng (B, L, D)

Breakfast in hotel then taking an excursion to Ta Vaeng. Travel by 4WD to Ta Veang and visit minority villages in the Ta Vaeng area. The people of these villages are known as Khmer Ioeu (upper Khmer). They number approximately 70,000 and the majority are located in the northeastern provinces such as Rattanakiri, Mondulkiri, Stung Treng, and Kratie. Groups include the Jorai, Tumpoun, Krung, Kra Chok and Kavet. Dinner and overnight in Rattanakiri.

Day 7: Rattanakiri (B, L, D)

Breakfast in hotel then taking an excursion by vehicle and boat to Vuen Sai. Boat trip to visit a Lao village, a Chinese village and a village of the ethnic minority Tompoum with an intesting cemetery. Afterwards visit a zircon mining field and, if time permits, some more villages. Dinner and overnight in Rattanakiri.

Day 8: Rattanakiri - Phnom Penh (B)

Breakfast in hotel then transfer to the airport for flight from Banlung to Phnom Penh. End of the tour.
