Itinerary in details:

Day 1 - Arrive Hanoi
 (D)

 

Arrive in Hanoi, welcome by your guide and transfer to hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Before dinner at a local restaurant, experience a traditional form of entertainment in northern Vietnam at a water puppet show.

Day 2 – Hanoi – Lao Cai (B/D)

 

A full day city tour of Vietnam’s capital. Hanoi is a unique city with tree-lined boulevards, French colonial architecture, peaceful lakes and oriental temples. The city tour includes such sights as Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and his house on stilts, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, the Quanh Thanh Temple and the Tran Quoc Pagoda on the edge of West Lake. Continue to the Museum of Ethnology and end the afternoon with a visit to the Lake of the Restored Sword and a cyclo tour of the Old Quarter. After dinner take the night train to Lao Cai.

Day 3 – Lao Cai – Sapa  (B)

 

Transfer to Sapa. In the terraced hills and mountains of Sapa, the monotony of the expansive green landscape is enlivened by the colours of its hill tribe population … the rainbow colours of the Flower H’mong, flashes of the shining silver jewellery from the necks and wrists of indigo-clad H’mong and the scarlet hues of the turbans worn by the Red Dao. It is where you will find hands stained with color from fabric dyes and shades of blue, red and green intricately embroidered and stitched into jackets, waistcoats, pants, skirts, caps purses and leggings. Take a morning walking tour of Sapa for a visit to the busy market where Red Dao, Black H’mong and other ethnic minority people converge from the surrounding countryside to sell their embroidery, silverware and handicrafts, and to buy provisions. In the afternoon visit the Cat Cat hill tribe village.

Day 4 - Sapa (B)

 

In the morning enjoy a trek to the Red Dao village of Tha Phin, and in the afternoon trek through the green Sapa Valley to visit the Black Hmong minority of Lao Chai Village and Giay minority of Ta Van.

Day 5 - Sapa-Ethnic Market-Lao Cai Hanoi  (B)

 

In the early morning, depart for a visit to a local colourful market. The afternoon involves a trek to the surrounding village, then back to Lao Cai to catch the night train to Hanoi.

Day 6 - Hanoi – Halong Bay – Emeraude Cruise (L, D)

 

Early arrival in Hanoi. After breakfast leave Hanoi by road for Halong Bay through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta and the scenery of rice fields, water buffalo and everyday Vietnamese village life with a stop en route at But Thap Pagoda in Bac Ninh Province, known for its four-storey stone stupa and referred to as Vietnam’s first Buddhist centre. The pagoda, built in the 13th century and rebuilt in 1647 by the Buddhist monk Chuyet Chuyet, is a complex of ten buildings over an area of 100 metres that houses ancient statues and artefacts.

 

Arrive in Halong and board the Emeraude, a wonderful replica of one of the classic steamships of the colonial era of French Indochina. A welcome drink will be served on the sundeck. With 37 luxurious air-conditioned cabins, a restaurant, two bars and a sundeck this is the ultimate Halong Bay experience. Lunch is served on board at 13:00. Whilst cruising on the emerald green waters of the bay try a traditional Vietnamese or foot massage as an optional extra. Another optional extra is high tea served on the sundeck in the late afternoon. A sunset cocktail is served on the sundeck at 18:30 followed by a buffet dinner between 20:00 and 23:00.

Day 7 - Emeraude Cruise-Halong Bay-Hanoi (B)

 

Wake up to fresh coffee and a wholesome breakfast before cruising back to Halong City. Early morning Tai Chi is an optional extra on the sundeck from 06:00 to 07:00 before breakfast. Arrive back at Emeraude’s private pier at 09:30 for disembarkation. Drive back to Hanoi. 

 

Note: the visit of the market will depend on the day of the market and will be arrange on day 3 or day 5 to one of the followings : Can Cau market on Saturday, Bac Ha market on Sunday, Coc Ly market on Tuesday
