Itinerary in details

Day 1 - Arrive Houei Xay - Muang Sing (B/ L/D)

 

After your arrival in Houei Xay, you will take a private vehicle to drive on the road 3 to reach Luang Namtha. Enjoy very nice scenery during the journey passing through the mountains. On the way, your guide will give you some essential information about a civilization of different areas, which is quite unique from one to another. Lunch en route at local restaurant. Diner in local restaurant.

 

Overnight in Muang Sing at Pou Iu guesthouse

 

Day 2 - Full day trek (B/ L/D)

 

In the morning, you will walk to the Akha village and have a complete day discovering this ethnic group’s culture and life style.

 

Begin the trek at That Xieng Tueng to Nam Keo Noi Water Fall.
Take a break at the Waterfall for lunch prepared by charming Akha woman.

 

After lunch carry on to the old village site and walk through pine forest and old growth forest before descending to Ban Lao Khao. Overnight in the Ban Lao Khao Lodge.

 

While waiting for dinner, visit with the Ban Lao Khao village host. Tour the villege, listen to traditional musical instruments, stories, legends while watching the preparation of the evening meal. Learn about traditional Akha houses.
And after dinner massage from the young women of the village before going off to listen to the courting songs of the youth at the courting grounds.

Day 3: - Full day trek (B/ L/D)

 

After breakfast start walking to Ban Phou Yae. The trail passes through secondary forest. The village guides will lead a forest activity such as birth watching, collecting bamboo shoots, and medicinal plants.

 

Visit a family home and with the family in Phou Yae village. After lunch continue to Ban Houeinagang. Stop for tea in Ban Houeinagang so a village activity such as cotton spinning, making and playing with children’s toys or pounding rice.

 

Continue to Ban Eu La. Along the way do agricultural activities like planting rice, riding a buffalo or gathering vegetables. Stop in Eu La Village for tea and visit with the village. (It is an Akha custom for visitors to stop in the village and chat before passing on through.)

 

Continue on to Ban Tamy to the village lodge. While waiting for dinner, visit with the Ban Lao Khao village hosts. Tour the village; listen to traditional musical instruments, stories, legends while watching the preparation of the evening meal. Learn about home life and marriage customs. And after dinner massage from the young women of the village before going off to listen to the courting songs of the youth at the courting grounds.

Day 4 - Muang Sing - Luang Namtha(B/ L/D)

 

After breakfast do a village activity such as cotton spinning, making and playing with children’s toys or pounding rice.

 

Depart for Ban Nam Hou. Along the way do agricultural activities like planting rice, riding a buffalo or gathering vegetables. Stop for tea in Ban Nam Hoo. Lunch in a family home in Monaa village. After lunch walk up through the forest to an overlook of the Muang Sing Plain. Do a forest activity such as bird watching, collecting bamboo shoots, medicinal plants.
Walk down to Ban Piyer and stop for tea. Visit the village handicraft store before taking the truck back to Luang Nam Tha.

Day 5 - Luang Namtha – Muang Khua (B)

 

After breakfast, start for a day journey to Muang Khua. The road pass trough the mountain, on the way stops to visit ethnic’s village. Enjoy lunch in local restaurant at Oudomxai. For the afternoon, drive to Muang Khua on road 4 for 102 km, on the way stop to visit some villages as Muang La, Sin Xay. Arrive Muang Khua at the end of the day to check in hotel. Diner in local restaurant.

Day 6 - Muang Khua trek (B/ L/D)

 

After the breakfast, meet your local guide and take together a local transport for about 40 minutes to the start point of the trek.

 

You follow the trail going up in the mountain; on the way, you can see villagers from the mountains pass sometime with horse to carry goods to sell in the market. Arrive at the top of the mountain you find an Akha village Ban Phakha, with your local guide you meet the villagers they shire but they are friendly and the children like running after you.

 

Take relax time, you meet the village chief and share local lunch in his home. Learn about the Akha culture and lifestyle.

 

Continue your trekking discover the cemetery outside the village, follow the trail continues down the mountain to arrive in Khmu village Ban Sang Houy to make a stop and have contact with villagers. From the village you walk down again to the valley where the road for your local transport to return in Muang Khua. Arrive in Muang Khua in the end afternoon.

Day 7 - Muang Khua – Nong Khiaw (B/ L/D)

 

Muang Khua take slow boat to navigate down the Nam Ou river on route, stop for lunch in local restaurant and visit Muang Ngoi, once a quaint village nestling at the foothill of a giant limestone outscrop. Now it’s a beautiful stopping off place for travellers coasting up and down the Nam Ou. The only way of reaching Muang Ngoi is by boat; the only road is a main street- leading nowhere. We stop there to visit village and go by walk to visit caves, Tham Kang and Tham Pakeo. After visit we continue navigate to Nong Khiaw.

Day 8 - Nong Khiaw - Kamu lodge (B/ L/D)

 

In the early morning, your driver will pick you up at your guesthouse and drive to Pak Ou village where you will embark in a private boat to visit the famous Pak Ou cave and continue navigate to the Kamu Lodge. The Kamu Lodge is enclosed with 20 tents which are recovered of thatches roof in a harmony with the nature and the local houses style. Each tent is appointed with traditional furniture made of bamboo and wood. Hot water is available in each bathroom (solar power) and all are in a 100% nature, away from tourist circuits.

 

After lunch, enjoy different activities available in Kamu Lodge:
• Demonstration of rice planting (with participation possible) with traditional techniques of cultivating the rice.
• Find some gold in the Mekong river (period from January to June).
• Have a walk in the forest and gain some new information about the medicinal traditional plants.
• Trekking around and discover a waterfall of 15 m height (2 hours of walk and boat)
• Fishing in the Mekong
• Visit the Khmu village and local people.

Day 9 - Kamu lodge trek to Luang Prabang (B/ L/D)

 

After breakfast, embark on boat to cross the Mekong river to arrive Ban Kengkhen for the start point trek. Cross the village and follow the trail along a stream in nice valley. Pass through rice field, some isolated house where living people far away from the modern civilization.

 

Arrive to the foot of the mountain, need to cross several time stream before hiking the mountain. Entrance in the tropical jungle with luxuriant variety of plant and trees. Meet people collect some wood or wild fruit or walking through the forest.

 

Pass the jungle continue in mountain forest, arrive at old village where only few villagers stay living here. Most of them are moving on villages down the mountains. Continue trekking along the top of the mountain and can appreciate the magnificent view to the mountains of the Mekong area.
Enjoy pic nic lunch on the way.

 

After that, descend the mountain on slop down trail and discover the rice plant growing there. Arrive down the way pass some villages of Lao Loum and Khmu and rice field to reach the isolated Ban Na village. Visit the village and after some relax get the private vehicle for half hour drive on dirt road to Ban Xiengmen village. Embark again on local boat to cross the Mekong, then arrive to Luang Prabang.

Day 10 - Luang Prabang (B/ L/D)

 

After breakfast, we drive To Kuang Si waterfalls, 38 km southwest of Luang Prabang with stops en-route to visit some ethnic minority villages. It is possible to walk to the top of the falls via a steep track and if the weather is good, swim in the clear water at the foot of the falls. Return in Luang Prabang for the lunch.

 

Afternoon, , enjoy city tour begins at the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum. Continue to Wat Mai, a temple renowned for its golden bas-reliefs. During Pimai, the lao new year, the Prabang normally housed in the Royal Palace Museum is brought and put on public display in this temple, Wat Xieng Thong then we climb up the Phou Si Temple for overlooking views of Luangprabang city (The world Heritage Site). We visit Hill Tribe Market (The Original Luangprabang people market in an ancient era and now it’s remain unchanged. It opens only in the evening time). Dinner is served in local restaurant before return to hotel.

 

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

 

Day 11 - Departure Luang Prabang (B/ L/D)

 

After breakfast, free at leisure until your transfer to the airport.
